Scouting In Action

 Scouting in Action is a one-day exposition held at several locations throughout the National Capital Area Council (NCAC) to showcase Scouting activities to the public. It will be held in Fall 2011 at a central location in each of the NCAC service areas and is designed to maximize local publicity for local units in a Jamboree setting using a standardized list of activities and NCAC advertising resources.

Background
Scouting in Action is the follow-on to Scouting On the Mall and Scouting On the Ellipse. For many years, Scouting on the Mall was a biennial event held on the second Saturday in May in even numbered years on the Mall near the Washington Monument. In 2004, the event was moved to the first Saturday in May and was physically moved to the Ellipse because of the construction around the Washington Monument. Scouting On the Ellipse was NCAC�s single largest one-day event showcasing the Scouting program to the public on the grounds right outside the White House. A special three-week long Scouting on the Mall is planned as part of the NCAC BSA Centennial Celebration to be held in 2010.

Current Status

• Event delayed from September 2009 until 2011 in order to not conflict with events leading up to the 2010 Scouting Centennial
• 2009-10: Support similar District-based events with NCAC advertising resources in preparation for 2011 NCAC event.

Near Term Needs
The priority is now on the establishment of Scouting in Action 2011 committees in each of the NCAC service areas. We will need a Scouting in Action coordinator/chair in each service area, and additional volunteer staff for each service area. These chairs and staff will help organize/run Scouting in Action in the Field Service Areas.
