Camp Snyder's C.O.P.E. Program
COPE is a truly Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience! You do not have to be an athlete to participate; the course is not beyond the reach of anyone of average physical condition who tries.
Program: The National Capital Area Council offers a challenge course program at Camp William B. Snyder consisting of:
Initiative Games: includes warm-ups, problem solving, teamwork, and decision-making games conducted on flat ground.
COPE: Our course has low and high course event elements, which require more complex problem solving and decision-making, and more teamwork. The full COPE program was designed for older Boy Scouts (13 and up) , Varsity and Venturing age youth and their adult leaders.
Each unit must show proficiency through experience and maturity of safely completing desired outcomes in the teamwork development exercises before tackling the more difficult COPE course events that are more physically and mentally challenging and require more group cooperation.
Registration: Please contact the Program Department at 301-214-9156 or Complete the "Facilities Use Request Form" and return it to the Marriott Scout Service Center:
National Capital Area Council, BSA, 9190 Rockville Pike, Bethesda, MD 20814
Registrations are taken on a First-Come First-Served basis, a maximum of 60 participants per weekend.
CAMPING: Units participating must provide their own meals, adult leadership, and must make their own camping arrangements for the weekend on the same registration "Facilities Use Request Form." Please contact the Program Department at 301-214-9156.
The COPE course is available most Saturdays during the spring and fall.
Note: winter and summer courses available by appointment only
