Dennis Sayre

Dennis Sayre started his adult scouting career when his son, Justin, was a Webelos Scout in Pack 442, Cloverly, MD. He served as Den Leader and Assistant Cubmaster until his son entered Troop 1444 in Colesville, MD. Dennis became Assistant Scoutmaster, giving over 12 years of dedication to Scouting’s principles. He worked with many youth in various capacities, including having served as a First Year Scout Adviser helping new scouts prepare for events.  He also recently worked with a local Hispanic Troop during its efforts to form into a new unit. Dennis attended their meetings and helped adult leaders learn their Scouting roles. He taught the new Scouts first aid and other Scouting skills, and helped organize their recent camping efforts.

Serving the council and district, Dennis staffed the Parent-Son Weekends for the National Capital Area Council in 1997 and 1998, and was a Junior Leader Training instructor in 2000 and 2001. He served as the Amangamek-Wipit Lodge Fellowship Adviser in 2008, and is as an Associate Chapter Advisor for the Montgomery OA Chapter, where he has helped prepare the yearly budget and assisted wherever needed.

A retired science teacher, Mr. Sayre helped shape youth potential for countless students in his 40 years of teaching in the Montgomery County Public School system. He has been an ever present volunteer giving many hours of support to various activities, including local stream clean-ups, Lions Club Christmas tree sales, coaching athletic teams, and other areas of service to his community.

The Montgomery District, Boy Scouts of America, proudly presents the District Award of Merit to Dennis Sayre!
