Scouting in the Powhatan District | 2012
– Serving Herndon, Reston & Great Falls, VA

Pounds of Food Collected During the 2011 Scouting for Food Drive:  27,044

670 youth in 18 units collected 27,044 pounds of food in the annual Scouting for Food drive. The food was distributed to local food pantries in Fairfax County.

Community Service Hours Completed:  Over 25,000

Scouts completed well over 25,000 service hours in 2011 conducting service projects for their chartered organizations, schools, community organizations, and other community members.

Number of Youth Served:  3,209

Over 3,200 youth between ages 7 and 21 are involved in the Scouting program.

Number of Volunteers Involved:  1,458

Over 1,400 adult volunteers are involved in Scouting and work to provide a quality program for the 3,209 youth members.

Number of Eagle Scouts in 2011:  106

106 Boy Scouts achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, Boy Scouts highest rank, in 2011. In order to achieve the Eagle rank, a Scout must earn 21 Merit Badges and conduct a major service projects.

Total Number of Scouting Units:  93

  • 36 Cub Scout Packs serving boys in grades 1-5;
  • 38 Boy Scout Troops and Varsity Teams serving boys ages 11-18; and
  • 19 Venturing Crews and Exploring Posts serving boys and girls aged 14-21.

BSA Chartered Organizations:  45

Scouting units are owned and operated by 45 different community partners. Partners include churches, civic clubs, and community service organizations.
