Prince Georges’ District Merit Badge Counselors Procedures & Guidelines

 • Merit Badge Counselors

BSA National requires all registered adults to have current Youth Protection Training (YPT).  While this training is good for two years from completion of the YPT program, as a Merit Badge Counselor our District requires that your MBC's YPT certification be active for the entire year of Merit Badge Counselor registration. This may require your MBc's to re-certify for YPT training annually. Please, each time your MBC's complete their YPT certification or re-certification, retain a copy for your records and send a copy of each YPT Certificate to Linda Nosalik at <nosalik@comcast.net>.  Failure to do so will cause the dropping of their names from the MBC lists.

All counselors who take their YPT without using their assigned PID numbers need to go back into myscouting.scouting.org and put in their numbers.  If counselors need to recall their PID numbers, contact Linda Nosalik or call 301/868-6826.

Scoutmasters: contact your MBC's to be sure they understand the need to take Youth Protection Training.

Guidelines and Recommendations for Merit Badge Counselors (PDF, 7/1/2009)

• Annual Renewal of Merit Badge Counselor Registration Required

There is a requirement to register annually as a MBC. Our District sends out Individual Personal Data Sheets to each counselor and asks for updates of the contact information if the MBC wants to continue and if not, to advise that their name be removed from the list and therefore removed as a MBC. Failure to return that Individual Personal Data Sheet or contacting your Merit Badge Dean by email or phone will cause you to be dropped from the list, and if registering again, it'll be like doing a new registration with adult application, MBC Information form, etc.

• District Area Counselors

Each unit is provided a copy of all the Merit Badge Counselors in their recharter packet. Please contact your unit leader if you are looking for a merit badge counselor. If your unit leader does not have a copy, please contact one of the District Merit Badge Deans for a copy.
