Unit Commissioner Training

As a new Unit Commissioner there are two basic requirements for training that must be met.  They are the Commissioner Fast Start Training (can be done on line at http://olc.scouting.org/ ) and the Commissioner Basic Training.  The National standard for training new commissioners is that they complete Fast Start (available online) within 48 hours of their appointment and Commissioner Basic Training within two months of their appointment.

UNIT HEALTH AND JOURNEY TO EXCELLENCE (JTE ) QUALITY PROGRAMS

 Journey To Excellence 2012 Journey to Excellence Quality Program.   This is a continuation of the program started in 2011 replacing CQUA.  The award criteria is changed somewhat from 2011, and is in part based on the unit's progress compared to its 2011 accomplishments. Commissioners and units should sit down and go over the goals and scoring scheme to complete their 2012 JTE assessment.

2012 JTE Scoresheets should be prepared for each unit, signed, and submitted to Don Palomaki by December 31, 2012. They may be scanned and submitted via e-mail  to: dpalomaki@dspalomaki.com or via postal mail to: 7014 Ebbtide Lane, Burke, VA 22015.

MS Excel Workbooks that can be used to automatically prepare a 2012 JTE score sheet maybe downloaded from: http://www.scouting.org/scoutsource/Awards/JourneyToExcellence/spreadsheets/2012.aspx

The Workbooks contain three tabs as follows:

A Data Entry tab. All unit identification data and data for calculating the  JTE score is entered on this tab. (This tab is not submitted.)

The JTE Data Page tab. This page is a completed Scoresheet based on the data that was entered onthe Data Entry Tab. It may be printed for signature and submission. Be sure to check the sheet to ensure it is correct before sumbitting, and when printing specify fit to a single sheet in portrait orientation.

A Budget tab is also provided for use as an aid in preparing a unit annual budget. (This tab is not submitted.)

As an aid in assessing Unit Health, the July-December 2012 Unit Health Assessment format is available for downloading as an Adobe PDF form from the link below. Unit Commissioners should answer the questions and return the responses to the e-mail or postal address on the form by December 31, 2012, and provide a copy to their ADC.
