On-Line Training

Training is offered in person at a variety of times throughout the year.  National BSA has decided to provide leaders with the opportunity to go through training online, in certain situations.  Any training that is offered online also is avaialble in person.

Training is offered on-line, via the E-Learning Center.  However, while the Catoctin Mountain Training Committee recognizes the convenience of this format, the committee also believes that this format is VERY limited.  While training on-line, there is no opportunity for dialog and personal experience sharing offered in a live format training session.  The committee strongly encourages new leaders to utilize the in person format training opportunities presented and will make every effort to accomodate the needs of Leaders beyond the current avaialble posted schedule of Training.  However, we ask of leaders that they recognize that with Scout Leader Training, like many other things, what you get from it is what you put into it.

On-line training was never meant to replace in-person training!

How to access the E-Learning Center.

Training on-line is available through the E-Learning Center, accessible through the BSA National web-site:  (http://www.scouting.org)

It also is directly accessible at :  http://www.myscouting.org

Individuals who need to utilize this format will need to establish an on-line ID and will need their membership number (the number at the bottom of their registration/membership cards). If an individual hasn’t a membership number, yet, the ID can still be set, but any training will not be automatically forwarded to their Council record.   From the BSA National Council web-site, scouts and scouters should access the “MyScouting” page, a Link at the top of the page.

Once on this web page, they will need sign in or set up a new account with their personal information.  This takes an email address and various personal information items.  If possible, they should provide their membership number.  Once established, this account will remain active for many uses, including event registrations, like Jamboree.

Once the account is set, they will be directed to the MyScouting web page on which they will find the E-Learning along the left hand side of the page.  Selecting this will redirect to the E-Learning web-page on which they will see a set of tabs across the top representing each of the Program areas (CS, BS, etc) with each of the available classes offered through the E-Learning.

Classes are distributed across the tabs at the upper left of the page.  They are divided by Program Area, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, etc.  We suggest taking ALL classes pertinent to your program area, include several from the GENERAL tab.

Remember, the Catoctin Mountain District Training Cmte strongly encourages leaders to schedule and attend in-person training to get the full experience and added benfit of interacting with other leaders.
