 Vigil Honor and Induction

The Vigil Honor is a high mark of distinction and recognition reserved for those Arrowmen who, by reason of exceptional service, personal effort, and unselfish interest, have made distinguished contributions beyond the immediate responsibilities of their position or office to one or more of the following: their lodge, the Order of the Arrow, Scouting or their Scout camp.

Annually, with the support of the chapters, the lodge Vigil selection committee, consisting of a chairman and committee members from each of the lodge service areas, all Vigil Honor members, meet to review the nominations of eligible Brotherhood members from the chapters as Vigil Honor candidates. Petitions for those selected by the Vigil committee are prepared and forwarded to the National Order of the Arrow Committee for approval. The selected Vigil candidates are subsequent notified and an opportunity for induction into the Vigil Honor is scheduled. The lodge conducts at least two Vigil Inductions: one at Goshen Scout Reservation in August and a second at Hallowood Retreat & Conference Center in November near Sugarloaf Mountain in MD. The Vigil candidates are publicly recognized with the presentation of their Vigil certificate at the annual Lodge Banquet.

It is imperative that all vigil candidates complete their registration for one of the Vigil Honor Inductions by August 1st. This can be accomplished by selecting a link below for the August or November Vigil Honor Induction.

If either of the scheduled dates are not convenient you must contact Mr. Larry Ruh, the Vigil Induction Adviser at 301-588-2683, immediately to make appropriate arrangements for an alternative induction ceremony date. Once you have contacted Mr. Ruh, you should then register for the November Vigil Induction.
