One of their major responsibilities is supporting the efforts of roughly 300 local Boy Scout councils throughout America. You are registered within the second largest local council in the country, the National Capital Area Council (NCAC). Our website has become a major online resource for anyone involved in Scouting. Please visit it and save it as a "favorite" - you'll refer to it often. Be sure to also make a "favorite" of this website and your local district's website. At www.scouting.org you will find the support you might need 24/7. The links below are just a sample. WHAT "COUNCIL" ARE YOU IN? The National Capital Area CouncilEach of the 300 local councils are charged with supporting the Scouting movement within a geographical area. The NCAC serves the chartered organizations, Scouts, parents and leaders in the greater metro area. The Marriott Scout Service Center in Bethesda, MD, serves as the main office with support for advancements, tour permits, registration, training, rechartering and a whole lot more. WHAT "DISTRICT" ARE YOU IN? Twenty geographical districts help support Scouting within the NCACEach of the 20 districts help assist volunteers (Scouters) and youth by holding training sessions, setting up great programs like camporees, holding monthly leader "Roundtables" which provide great ideas for you to use within your unit the following month. ONLINE LEARNING CENTER & RESOURCES Training to help you be successful in whatever position your filling is now located on the Web! By visiting this site and setting up a secure profile, your will automatically receive credit each time you take any of the various modules offered. You will need the ID number printed on your BSA membership card to set up a profile, but anyone can take the courses. Click the image button to check out this great tool. WHERE CAN I GO CAMPING?Your council owns, maintains, and operates two main camping areas - Camp William B. Snyder near Haymarket, VA and Goshen Scout Reservation near Lexington/Goshen, VA. These properties are yours to use and enjoy. Camping, day activities, training sessions, swimming, boating and a lot more are available for Scout families, dens, packs, troops, teams, and ships.
