Lenhok'sin Outposts
Foxfire
Based on the series of books by the same name, Foxfire is set in 1913 Appalachia and is one of our most popular outposts. Try your hand at the lost art of blacksmithing. You can make something as simple as an “S” hook or as complex as a knife blade. Other opportunities include woodworking, bone carving, candle dipping, stone carving, and leatherwork. Spend the day building and creating or just relaxing in the cool waters of Kelso Spring.
Mountain Man
The fur trappers of the early 1800's blazed the way for the settlement of the West. At this Outpost, you will be able to shoot our black powder rifle, throw tomahawks and knives, and listen to our mountain man weave his tall tales. Make sure that you have an item of value with a good story so that you can trade with the Mountain Man, a true bartering master.
Lumberjack
Lumberjack offers your crew the chance to try some of the games and competitions that the loggers of the 1890's enjoyed. During the day, throw double bitted axes, compete in two man cross-cut sawing, work on a real log cabin, play some period games, and, of course, with just a pair of gaffs and a belt, work your way up to the top of our tree climb. After a day of chopping and sawing, relax around the campfire while enjoying food and music provided by your crew and our Lumberjacks
Rock Climbing
The Rock Climbing Outpost is tough. When you climb to the top, you have truly met High Adventure. Safety is always our number one concern and at this Outpost it is paramount. Whether you are climbing up or rappelling down, you will be in good hands. Our staff is trained at the BSA's National Camping School by climbing experts, so even if you are stuck between a rock and a hard place or at the end of your rope, you're in good hands. Spend a few hours at this natural rock outcropping and you'll be close to an expert climber.
Mountain Biking
Hold on tight!!!! You're in for an exciting ride at Mountain Biking outpost. Spend the afternoon riding the trails of the Goshen Scout Reservation and the evening relaxing, knowing that you have tested your stamina and riding ability on our scenic trails. This outpost has achieved a good balance between introductory riding and a more advanced level of riding excitement and challenge. We've added 12 new, top of the line bikes to our inventory for next summer to further enhance your experience.
Civil War
Experience the life of a Civil War soldier! This outpost is configured to provide the experience of an 1862 School of the Soldier training camp. Civil War type A-frame white canvas tents are provided as quarters. Scouts and leaders are recruited and provide enlistment papers and will learn about about the lives of soldiers in the Civil War through experiencing instruction in 1861 drill with reproduction and original artifacts presented. You'll also have an opprotunity to learn to shoot with reproduction Enfield and Springfield muzzle loaders. In the evening, relax with 19th century games of horse shoes, baseball, chess, card games, and draughts.
Kayaking
Kayaking is an adventure for all on Lake Merriweather. Head out on the lake and explore the coves, inlets, and best fishing spots. After a cruise on the lake, enjoy a relaxing dinner at base camp, and try your luck at fishing. Better yet, catch your dinner in the late afternoon and be the hero of your crew that night.
Caving
Back by popular demand next summer, the Caving outpost has been reopened. Crossroads cave is an adventure in its self. In order to experience this outpost to it’s full potential, please remember to bring a pair of long durable pants, and a durable long sleeve shirt. (blue jeans and a button down flannel shirt will work just fine) After spending a few hours crawling through the cave system, and taking in the breath-taking views the cavern has to offer, the scouts will be transported back to there camp site for evening program.
