Honoring the J.Dan McCarthy 2012 Class of Silver Beavers

MCLEAN, VA (March 29, 2012) - More than 400 Scout leaders and family members turned out for the National Capital Area Council 2012 Court of Honor. Twenty-six local leaders received the Silver Beaver award in recognition of their distinguished service to youth. Dan McCarthy, the immediate past council president, was named the 2012 Silver Beaver cass honoree in recognition of his years of devoted service to the council. This was Dan's last event as a Scouting volunteer; on April 1, 2012 he will become a professional Scouter, assuming leadership of the Summit Bechtel Reserve as Summit Group Director. 

Also recognized were the districts and service areas that earned Journey to Excellence Gold and Silver Awards, a heroic Scouter - Ben Bocuzzi, who used his CPR training to save a co-worker's life - and an exceptional new Eagle Scout - Isaac Wieser, whose determination to become an Eagle overcame developmental and physical challenges.
