Additional improvements are underway for 2009.

What is GOSHEN SCOUT RESERVATION?
Goshen is the National Capital Area Council's long-term resident summer camp located on 4,000+ acres in the mountains of southwestern Virginia. There are six separate camps on the shores of 450-acre Lake Merriweather. The Boy Scouts use three of the camps for troop camping, the Webelos Scouts use two of the camps for their activities, and the High Adventure crews, hiking in the back country, depart from the sixth camp.

ACTIVITY AREAS AVAILABLE
Each Scout and Venturer, depending on his or her age, size and interest, can participate in any of the following areas:

Aquatics
Develop confidence in and around the water by learning how to swim or earning the Swimming merit badge, Lifesaving merit badge or the BSA Lifeguard. Learn how, and then demonstrate the ability to handle and recover from an upset canoe or rowboat. Useful skills for the rest of your life - wouldn't you agree?

Shooting Sports
Each Scout may be exposed to any of the shooting sports offered at camp during the open shoot time, or he may sign up and earn a merit badge in archery, rifle, or shotgun shooting. He will gain a basic knowledge, learn a skill, and develop a positive attitude in firearms safety. Safety First!

Conservation
This has always been a important part of Scouting. There is much to learn in many areas such as how to take care of the land, water, air, environment, and all living things. Merit badge offerings include astronomy, mammals, environmental science, and weather.

Scoutcrafts
Learn the skills needed to live comfortably in the outdoors, including camping, pioneering, hiking, cooking and survival skills. Enjoy working with ropes and spars to create towers, bridges, or whatever the imagination can dream up.

Handicrafts
Here a boy uses his hands to learn such skills as woodcarving, leatherwork, where he may make a leather pouch for his pocket knife or a pair of moccasins, and basketry, where a foot stool for mom is the popular item. These are just a few of the handicraft skills taught at camp.

Lenhok'sin High Adventure
Lenhok'sin High Adventure is based at Goshen Scout Reservation and has more than 50 miles of hiking trails that rise over 2,000 feet around the lake. Crews at Lenhok'sin have the option to choose their areas of interest to visit during their week-long trek. Please check out the Lenhok'sin High Adventure pages for trek descriptions.
