Camp MarriottGeneral Information Camp Marriott is a Boy Scout resident camp located on 450-acre Lake Merriweather. Thomas Jefferson once called this area the "Garden of Eden of the United States." Feeding options at Camp Marriott include patrol cooking or heater stack. Youth sleep in two man tents with cots. Camp is accredited annually by the BSA and meets State of Virginia requirements. Scouts attend with their unit. Camp Marriott has a wide variety of program options available. Aquatics and Ecology are the featured programs at Camp Marriott. New for 2010 is the introduction of our Specialty Area which includes two new Eagle required badges! Merit Badges added this year include Athletics, Backpacking, Bugling, Citizenship in the World, Communications, Energy, Hiking, Music, Paul Bunyan Award, Pulp & Paper, Sports, and Theater. Merit Badge and Programs OfferedAquatics: BSA Lifeguard (Minimum age: 15 years old), Canoeing, Kayaking BSA (Minimum age: 14 years old), Life Saving, Motorboating (Minimum age: 13 years old), Rowing, Sailing (Minimum age: 13 years old), Swimming, Rowing, Water Sports (Minimum age: 14 years old) Ecology: Archaeology, Astronomy, Bird Study, Environmental Science, Fish & Wildlife Management, Forestry, Geology, Insect Study, Mammal Study, Nature, Oceanography, Pulp & Paper, Reptiles & Amphibians, Soil & Water Conservation, Space Exploration, Weather Field Sports: Archery, Fishing, Rifle, Shotgun Handicraft: Art, Basketry, Finger Printing, Indian Lore, Leatherwork, Woodcarving New Scout Quest: The New Scout Quest Program is primarily designed for the Scout who has recently registered and has not been introduced to the Tenderfoot through First Class advancement requirements yet. Topics include the Firem'n Chit, Totin' Chip, knots and lashings, map and compass work, five-mile hike, and native animals to name a few. PLEASE READ: Important Camp Marriot Program Changes for 2010To all adult leaders of Camp Marriott, Listed below are some changes in the schedule for the summer of 2010. We at camp Marriott have been making efforts to change the website. As you know we had a management switch at Marriott this summer. When I took over as camp director I was under the impression that these changes had finally been taken care of. We have just realized that many of our changes went unnoticed. We feel it is important for you to have the correct information before coming to camp. We do recognize that this is very short notice before you actually arrive.
