Click the play button to watch the 2009 promotion video! | Camp PMI (for Webelos Scouts)General InformationPIRATES OF GOSHENOwned by BSA's National Capital Area Council, Camp P.M.I. is one of the six camps that make up Goshen Scout Reservation. P.M.I., a camp for boys entering the 4th and 5th grades, is located in the Shenandoah Valley near Goshen, Virginia, about 200 miles from Washington, D.C. Every summer, 1,800 Scouts and leaders visit P.M.I. for a week of fun, adventure, hiking, and Scouting. The staff hosts a program which consists of aquatics, nature, Scoutcraft, field sports, and handicraft activities, volleyball, climbing, horseshoes, frisbee golf, plus a camp store and instruction in first aid. The reservation's most popular hiking trails are close to P.M.I. Hikes to Viewing Rock and Swinging Bridge are highlights of the week. Of course, a Webelos camp could not run without a wonderful staff. P.M.I.'s young men and women, ages 14 through 26, are dedicated to the development, safety, and well being of the campers. Many staffers find it a rewarding experience, returning year after year, and making friendships which will last a lifetime. Camp is accredited annually by the BSA and meets State of Virginia mandates. Scouts attend with their unit. Activity badges happen naturally as part of the program. We do offer programs which accomplish the requirements for the archery belt loop and pin, and aquanaut and readyman pins. Daily Schedule of ActivitiesOn Monday and Tuesday, Webelos have the opportunity to visit every program area so that everyone gets a chance to try everything that PMI has to offer. Then your den has the opportunity to plan your own program for Wednesday - Friday, mixing up program areas with hikes to Viewing Rock (the BEST view of Lake Merriweather and the surrounding valley) or to take a dip in the water at Swinging Bridge. Each Night we have a activity to keep your Scouts moving. We take advantage of some of these activities to have information sessions for adult leaders known as Roundtable meetings. The campfires roar on Sunday and Friday nights. Prepare for a week of adventure as you join the P.M.I. staff on the high seas and in search of buried treasure as the Pirates of P.M.I.!!! Webelos Scouts can also earn the coveted Webelos Camp Diamond "W" Award. Requirements include: - Hike to another base camp OR hike two miles of Goshen Trails.
- Learn the Outdoor Code.
- Devote one hour to Service Projects around camp.
- Average score of 28 out of 30 on site inspections OR show steady improvement.
Who May Attend: All registered youth who have graduated from the 3rd or 4th grades may attend. For more information, please contact Ben Litten, Camp Director at ben.litten@gmail.com.
