As of 6/1/10, all MBCs are required to have completed the BSA Youth Protection Training (renewed every two years). Log in to myscouting.org for the on-line training module. If you complete YPT in person (not on-line) please submit a copy of your completion certificate with your application. All Merit Badge Counselors (MBCs) are required to be registered with the Boy Scouts of America through their Council. This entails contacting the Goose Creek District Merit Badge Committee, obtaining, completing, and turning in the "BSA Adult Application." The council will then process the application. (Every applicant is screened.) The District will keep a seperate unoffical database of MBCs and which merit badges they are willing to teach. There is no fee for registering as a MBC. Upon approval to serve as a volunteer, individuals are expected to complete BSA Youth Protection training within 90 days of assuming a leadership position. This training can be done through the BSA's Online Learning Center. The Boy Scouts of America seeks to create a safe environment for young people and adult leaders to enjoy the program and related activities.
