| When you buy popcorn from a Scout in the National Capital Area Council (NCAC), 32% goes directly to the unit, 33% goes to the Council, and 33% goes to Trail’s End for the product. Units use their commission to support activities and program-related costs as does the Council. In 2010, NCAC will be giving units the opportunity to earn an extra 3% - bringing a unit’s total commission up to 35% and providing more money for more activities and programs on the unit level. Eligibility requirements to obtain this increase in commission will be outlined at the Regional Kick-Off meeting. If 35% now goes to the unit, where does the Council’s 30% commission go? To support the popcorn initiative: -
Tickets for the Washington Nationals Baseball Outing (at least .05% of commission) -
Meals and support items for the Top Sellers Day Party (at least .05% of commission) -
Scout and unit prizes (at least 5% of commission) -
Unit kick-off kits, order forms, food for kick-offs, door prizes, and other unit support items (at least 5% of commission) -
Wal-Mart gift cards for the weekly drawings (.05% of commission) -
Home delivery service from Moyer and Son's (1% of commission) -
Vehicle rental for regional kick-offs (.05% of commission) -
-
Administrative and operating costs associated with the Marriott Scout Service Center, camp facilities, staff, maintenance, insurance, administrative support and other operational items (at least 3 % of commission) With 67% of the monies raised through popcorn are reinvested in local Scouting, buying and selling popcorn enables units to directly support their activities and the Council to directly support the units in their efforts. This year, the Council set an aggressive but achievable goal of selling $5 million dollars in popcorn. More popcorn bought and sold means more Scouts can enjoy the great programs and valuable lessons that Scouting provides. So when you hear that knock on your front door and see that Scout on your doorstep, don’t think just about the popcorn you’re buying. Think about the positive impact, leadership opportunities and character-building experiences that your purchase brings to local youth. Your investment in popcorn is an investment in your community. |
