The Adventures of Camping

In the outdoors, youth have opportunities to acquire skills that make them more self-reliant. They can explore canoe paths and hiking trails and complete challenges they first thought were beyond their ability. Attributes of good character become part of a youth as he or she learns to cooperate to meet outdoor challenges that may include extreme weather, difficult trails and portages, and dealing with nature's unexpected circumstances.

NCAC provides three main camps for Scouts to use and explore. Cub Scouts can become familiar with the outdoors by attending themed Day Camps. Individual units of all levels, can camp overnight at Camp William B Snyder, which also hosts Cub World, a themed summer camp program for Cub Scouts. Webelos, Boy Scouts and Venturers can attend camp at the Goshen Scout Reservation, which offers both classic summer camp programs and high adventure programs. Check out Promotional Videos for all these camps and programs.

Cub Scout Day Camps

The National Capital Area Council Cub Scout Day Camps are themed, weeklong day camps for boys in grade 1 through Webelos. The camps open Monday mornings from the end of school in June through mid-August, and best of all...camps are held in your local communities. Activities vary from camp to camp, but usually range from traditional Scouting games and achievement opportunities to archery and BB instruction, crafts, nature study, soccer, fishing, swimming, handicrafts, leatherwork, and camp skills.

All of our Cub Scout Day Camps will have trained Camp Directors and Program Directors who are certified by BSA's National Camping School.  Each Day Camp location is inspected and certified by a Day Camp Visitation team approved by BSA. Day Camps typically run from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

Camp William B. Snyder

The 350-acre Camp William B. Snyder, located in Haymarket, Virginia is the latest and greatest camping experience offered by the National Capital Area Council and the Boy Scouts of America.  Camp Snyder serves as a multi-functional camp that can meet the needs of Packs, Troops, Venture Crews, Varsity Teams, and other outside organizations looking to develop a partnership or quality outdoor experience.

Choose from a wide variety of camping styles including open field camping, Troop campsites using our platformed wall tents, and Troop Cabins with full kitchen and air Conditioning! Camp Snyder also features state-of-the-art facilities including an olympic sized outdoor swimming pool with slides, zero-entry area, water basketball and volleyball areas, an air conditioned 500 person dining hall, and a COPE Course.

Goshen Scout Reservation

Goshen is the National Capital Area Council's long-term resident summer camp located on 4,000+ acres in the mountains of southwestern Virginia. There are six separate camps on the shores of 450-acre Lake Merriweather. The Boy Scouts use three of the camps for troop camping, the Webelos Scouts use two of the camps for their activities, and the High Adventure crews, hiking in the back country, depart from the sixth camp.

Each Scout and Venturer, depending on his or her age, size and interest, can participate in any of the following areas: Aquatics, Shooting Sports, Conservation, Scoutcrafts, Handicrafts, and Lenhok'sin High Adventure. In addition, Goshen Scout Reservation features the finest COPE Course and Climbing Tower anywhere, a climbing wall for Webelos Scouts, the best High Adventure Trek program this side of Philmont, a variety of options for program and food service at our Scout Base Camps, Kayaking in ALL camps, and New special program features at each Scout camp!
