Meet the new District Executive (DE)

Hello, my name is John E Hinnant the new District Executive of Zekiah District (Charles County, Maryland). I recently moved from Taos, NM with my wife Sarah, our 3 dogs and a horse. I was raised in a scouting family in Wilson, North Carolina where I received the Eagle Scout Honor as well as Vigil Honor in the Order of the Arrow. From there I attended Western Carolina University were I majored in Parks and Recreation Management. While in High School and college I was a participant and staff member at Philmont Scout Ranch, it was there in the summer of 2006 I met my wife Sarah. We then moved to New Mexico where we lived in a sustainable community. I am looking forward to working with you and appreciate all you do for scouting in Zekiah District.

Zekiah District Friends of Scouting Annual Campaign is Underway
|
|
| What is Friends of Scouting?
Friends of Scouting is the annual campaign where the National Capital Area Council asks Scouting families, businesses and civic-minded citizens to support our mission of providing the Scouting program to tens of thousands of young people in the Washington DC area.
Why should I give to Friends of Scouting?
Friends of Scouting provides roughly one fifth (21%) of the money needed to operate the National Capital Area Council's Scouting camps, programs and facilities for a calendar year. These camping and training facilities are the "outdoor classrooms" in which Scouts have fun, learn leadership skills and develop into better young men and women. The National Capital Area Council spends approximately $185 per Scout each year to deliver these benefits and much more.
I already paid my child's registration and his unit collects annual dues. Haven't I already supported Scouting?
Your child's registration fee goes directly to the National Office of the Boy Scouts of America. If your child's Scout unit collects dues, that money stays with the unit to help pay for trips and other activities. None of that money helps the National Capital Area Council pay for:
- Maintaining and staffing the council's 5 camping properties and Marriott Service Center
- Training thousands of adult volunteer leaders
- Providing Cub Scout, Scout and Venturing programs to over 50,000 Scouts
- Printing Scouters Digest newspaper, mailings, provide insurance to volunteers and staff, provide publications and resources, provide adult and Eagle Scout recognition, etc
We need your support :
Please donate what you can at your unit's Friends of Scouting presentation to ensure our District and Council are operating at the best level for your Scout
