The Occoquan District provides Scouting services to the youth and adults of Eastern Prince William County in Northern Virginia. This includes the areas of Occoquan, Woodbridge, Dale City, Lake Ridge, Dumfries, Triangle, and Montclair.  This site serves to provide accurate, on-time information for both Scouting families and those interested to join and learn more about Scouting.

  • 150th anniversary of the Battle of Kettle Run - Scout Volunteer Opportunity
    SCOUT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY!!!Bristoe Station Battlefield ParkOn August 25th, the Prince William County Historic Preservation Divisionwill commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Kettle Run. This battle,fought during the Civil War, caused over 1,000 casualties. As part of the evening portion of the program, portions of the battlefield park will be covered with 1,100 lighted luminaries.This is a great way for Scouts to gain service hours and be involved in a uniqueeducation program.We are looking for Scout groups to assist us in preparing and lighting the luminaries. We need several groups of Scouts of all ages to assist in:-Filling Luminary Bags with sand and candles (two or three weeks leading up to the event -Place Luminary Bags across Battlefield ( August 25th, starting at 2pm, Boy & Girl Scouts-Light candles in Luminary Bags (August 25th at 7pm, Boy & Girl ScoutsIf Interested in Participating , Please Contact Rob Orrison at 703-366-3049 rorrison@pwcgov.org

  • Healthy Paddles
    HEALTHY PADDLES www.healthypaddle.org 703-690-2121 What is healthy paddles?It is a program designed for families to get outside and exercise by hiking and paddling.Who is promoting the program?This is a partnership of the Occoquan Water Trail League (OWL) and the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority (NVRPA) with the support of the National Environmental Education Foundation, Inova,The National Park Trust, REI and LL Bean.How does it work?Individuals and families build a personal health itinerary using tools provided by Healthy Paddles. A personal log is created and tracked on the Healthy Paddle website.Where does it happen?Healthy Paddles will list dozens of hiking and paddling opportunities throughout the year for families to get out and meet their goals.When does it start?The kick off will be Saturday, May 19th, 2012 at Occoquan Regional Park in Lorton Va. From 10 am to 3 pm. Recreation and health professionals will be on hand to help you build your personal health itinerary.

    Quantico closing park for two months to remove munitionsLunga Park recreation area will be CLOSED and OFF-LIMITS from Monday, 2 April through Saturday, 2 June 2012.During a recent site inspection, 1950s munitions where found in remote areas of Lunga. While there is no immediate threat to the recreation area or to the campsites, the recreation area closures are to provide a time for clean-up and to reduce any potential risk to the public.The well-being of base residents and visitors is our number one priority, We thank you for understanding the importance of public safety,while we conduct clean-up operations.Lunga Park sits on a 420-acre reservoir about 7.5 miles west of the South Gate at Marine Corps Base Quantico.http://www.quantico.usmc-mccs.org/Lunga/index.cfm

  • National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) (aka Impessa)
    NYLT (Impeesa) is the National Youth Leadership Training. The objective of NYLT is to equip our young people with leadership skills to help them succeed in their scouting program and in LIFE. NYLT brings together scouts from all over the Council to learn and practice the leadership techniques in a risk free, scout friendly environment. The Scouts learn and practice leadership skills and styles together. The course is presented primarily using a Boy Scout model as the vehicle which allows all attendees to SEE how leadership skills fit into the scouting program. These Leadership skills are applicable to all scouting programs.   • Dealing with Cyberbullies
    What is cyberbullying?Cyberbullying refers to practice of using technology to harass, or bully, someone else. Bullies used to be restricted to methods such as physical intimidation, postal mail, or the telephone. Now, developments in electronic media offer forums such as email, instant messaging, web pages, and digital photos to add to the arsenal. Computers, cell phones, and PDAs are current tools that are being used to conduct an old practice.Forms of cyberbullying can range in severity from cruel or embarrassing rumors to threats, harassment, or stalking. It can affect any age group; however, teenagers and young adults are common victims, and cyberbullying is a growing problem in schools.Why has cyberbullying become such a problem?

    If you unit is interested in learning more about the American Flag, Mr. A. Vic Poillucci, a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1503 Patriotism Committee conducts Flag History presentations to school classrooms, Civic Groups, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp (JROTC) members and others requesting Guest Speakers.The Flag History presentation Mr. Poillucci provides is centered around the War of 1812 and, what and how inspired Francis Scott Key, a thirty-two year old lawyer from Frederick, MD, to pen the four stanza poem "The Defense of Fort McHenry" - the first stanza of which became our National Anthem. If you are, or know, a merit badge counselor, please let us know.  We are compiling a roster of counselors and need name, e-mail and phone number for each counselor.  To submit a name, send to Ed Fairbairn.

By signing up to an E-list/newsletter you will stay well informed with the important information you need to know about our council.  Using the RSS feed, you can receive alerts right to your email and be informed of events and activities occurring in the NCAC.  If you haven’t already done so you will be asked to create a profile.  After you create a profile you will be presented with a list of topics you can sign up to receive periodic information about. Please sign-up for the Occoquan District Newsfeed to receive notification of upcoming Occoquan District activities.  At anytime you can add yourself to new lists or remove yourself from lists you are no longer interested in.  Be sure to select as many list as you want including the lists relevant to your Scouting positions (i.e. Scoutmaster, Cubmaster, Den Leader, etc.)

Occoquan District Scouts in Action 

On March 31, 2012, the Old Bridge United Methodist Church hosted the 2012 Occoquan District Scouter Recognition Dinner. Following a delicious meal, volunteer Scouters were honored with numerous awards.

Jeff Hanson announced Occoquan District was the winner of the National Capital Area Council Journey to Excellence for earning gold Journey to Excellence status in 2011.

Leading the program was Master of Ceremony Jack Zeto. The flag ceremony was conducted by representatives from the Occoquan District Troop
