New NCAC Policy on Internet Advancement and Purchase of Cub Scout and Boy Scout Recognition
Effective April 1, 2012-- the Scout Shops will only accept the printed advancement reports from Internet Advancement with the distinctive header information and Units will only be able to purchase the following items with that report. Click here for the official NCAC policy.
-
Cub Scouts: Ranks (i.e., Bobcat to Arrow of Light)
-
Boy Scouts: Ranks (i.e., Tenderfoot to Life)
-
Note: only the NCAC program office can enter Eagle Scout ranks.
This restriction includes rank patches, rank recognition cards, and parent’s pins. There are no restrictions on units purchasing other items such as Cub Scout Arrow Points, Webelos Activity Badges, or Boy Scout Merit Badges.
If you need to buy a replacement rank patch for a new uniform or lost patch, please bring evidence of the achievement (e.g., handbook, award card, etc) to show the Scout Shop at the time of purchase.
Order of the Arrow
While the Montgomery Chapter reorganizes, we still meet the third Sunday of each month at St. Patrick's Church, Norbeck Road, Rockville. Next meeting May 20th. In preparation for the split you will be getting e-mails about having meetings within your boundaries. But please still attend the Montgomery Chapter Meetings on the 3rd Sunday of each month.
In the interim mini-meetings are being held for each area:
Potomac OA meeting: 7:30 - 8:15 PM -- Tuesdays
Potomac LDS Church, 11700 Falls Rd, Potomac, MD
-
We will meet as the Potomac Area of the Montgomery Chapter at first, and on the same night as the Potomac District adult Roundtable. When we officially become the Potomac OA Chapter, this will then be our routine until or unless you Arrowmen decide on something better. A full meeting agenda includes upcoming activities among other topics of interest. Please come and support your Chapter. Get a ride from an adult leader who's coming to Roundtable!
Free Brotherhood Conversions
If you have paid your 2011 dues and have been a member before June 2010 you are eligible for the Free Brotherhood Conversion. See the OA tab for more information.
Training
Youth Protection Training Credit and Member IDs
Some of the individuals who have completed the BSA's Youth Protection Training do not have member IDs associated with their MyScouting accounts. This week, the National Council will send e-mails to those individuals reminding them to update their MyScouting accounts with their member ID in order to receive credit for the YPT training. (Some recipients of the e-mail may not be registered volunteers and will have no member ID.)
The reminder will be sent to people who completed Youth Protection (Y01) or Venturing Youth Protection (Y02), but do not have a member ID posted to their MyScouting profiles. The e-mail will stress the importance of associating their ID with their profile so that they can receive the appropriate credit for this important training. Additionally, it will explain the methods for finding their member ID and instructions for updating their MyScouting profile.
Please be aware of this important communication and continue to encourage all leaders to take the BSA's Youth Protection Training.
The Training Update Form can be found by clicking here - Please submit only the missing dates from your personal records to Robert Murphy . Please validate your scoutnet records by entering your myscouting .org account and clicking BSA Training Validation. See the training tab for the list of What is a trained Leader requirements.
