SUPPORT SCOUTING
To this Cub Scout, your support is the key to his superhero powers. With it, his imagination can fly, he can leap over tall obstacles and his character becomes eternally strong.
Each year, NCAC provides a variety of opportunities for the community to gather, network, celebrate and support the tremendous impact of Scouting on local youth. Whether you donate your time, talent or treasure, the effect your participation has on young people is critical.
As 2011 drew to a close, NCAC’s youth membership totaled 56,496 boys and girls with 21,157 adult volunteers providing leadership. The highly respected rank of Eagle Scout was earned by 1,263 boys and the Council was a Gold Award Recipient for the inaugural year of Journey to Excellence, BSA’s national benchmarking system that helps ensure councils are providing a high quality program at all levels of Scouting. Other 2011 Council highlights include: 859,000 pounds of canned food collected during the 25th Annual Scouting for Food campaign; a balanced operating budget for the 20th consecutive year; a 77.6% youth retention rate (among the highest of any council in the country!); 591 Scouts earned their faith’s religious award; more than 263,000 hours of local community service were provided; and 98% of direct contact leaders were Youth Protection Trained.
In March of 2011, NCAC’s Executive Board voted to enact a 2011-2015 Strategic Plan. This plan spells out the Council’s commitment to involve more youth in Scouting; ensure NCAC is fiscally sound now and for the future; provide quality leadership matched to the communities we serve and the programs we deliver; exceed the expectations of National BSA and our local stakeholders; improve and expand our marketing and communication efforts to and for volunteers; and make available quality facilities that meet the needs and expectations of an expanding customer base both in and out of Scouting.
