Call for Victim Volunteers—Emergency Preparedness Exercise—June 30Boy Scout, Venturing, Varsity leaders: Fairfax County Fire and Rescue is hosting an important emergency response training session for CERT teams from VA, MD, and DE on June 30.  The County has asked Colonial district to help by providing “victims” for the drill.  They need at least 100 “victims” so that gives you an idea of the scale of this exercise.  This is a great opportunity for your Scouts (age 15 and older) and adults to be made up with fake blood and wounds, and play the role of victims with specific injuries for the drill.  Most importantly, your Scouts will be able to (a) See what large scale emergency response looks like and how it is performed,(b) Observe and learn from professional emergency responders and trained adult volunteers, and (c) Provide an important civic and community service. Note:  This would meet requirement 7 for Emergency Preparedness Merit Badge, Take part in an emergency service project, either a real one or a practice drill, with a Scouting unit or a community agency.  Why not think about leveraging the CERT drill as a merit badge opportunity for your older Scouts? The requirement is to show up with a consent form (one for adults, one for minors) at 7:00 a.m. sharp on Sunday, June 30, get made up, get your part, act your part, and go home around 1:00.   For those who need service credit, that is 6.5 hours.  Lunch is provided.  Just a suggestion, this is also a great opportunity for Scouts to bring their friends, older siblings, parents, and any pesky in-laws who may be visiting.  Note the details below on clothing, water, etc.  Please respond directly to actors@fairfaxcountycert.org  for more information and to register
