Registration Open for BSA Grand Centennial Parade

Only four parades are permitted in Washington D.C. per year: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Veterans Day and the Cherry Blossom Festival Parade. But this year, the District and the National Parks Service is welcoming one more – the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) Grand Centennial Parade on July 25. Not only are we celebrating our 100th Anniversary, but because of the historical significance and contributions of the BSA to the fabric of American society, our centennial parade is being permitted to march down Constitution Avenue. The significance of this should be a signal to every Scout in every state – and to all our supporters coast to coast – that Scouting is source of national pride. Don’t miss your chance to be a part of history! Click here for more information.

2010 National Scout Jamboree "Ribbon" CSP

Special National Capital Area Council shoulder strips have been designed and made in recognition of the 2010 National Scout Jamboree.  The purple bordered CSPs are available online or at the front desk of the Marriott Scout Service Center.  Special copper-bordered strips area available only to those attending jamboree as part of the NCAC contingent, and a turquoise-bordered ‘Staff’ strip (for those NCAC volunteers attending Jamboree as a staff member).  The ‘Staff’ strips are only available for purchase through front desk at the Marriott Scout Service Center.

Venturing Potomac River Cleanup Service Project

Saturday, April 10, 2010, 9:00 am – 12:00 noon
Oxon Cove, Oxon Hill National Park, MD

Venturers and Scouts from all over the National Capital Area Council will gather at Oxon Hill National Park to help in the Annual Potomac River Watershed Cleanup day. Last year, volunteers cleaned almost 3 tons of debris out of the Potomac River. With the help of Venturers, we will make it 4 tons this year.

Oxon Cove is one of the places that needs the most help and the Venturers are the ones to do it. Join other Venturers in this fun and very worthwhile service project.

So wear your grubbies, and rubber boots if you have them, and come help us preserve our national river. It flows right through our council, so what better place to help. If you do not have rubber boots, no problem – there is plenty to do without getting in the water. Please email Adair Petty and Mike Stumpf to let us know  you are coming. For directions to and information on Oxon Hill National Park, visit their website - Click Here.

Snyder!  You and your son can enjoy one of the finest 24-hour planned outdoor programs available in the National Capital Area Council for Cub Scouts and Webelos!  You bring the gear, we’ll supply the fun!

Age / Grade Eligibility Change for Venturing Program

The current age and grade eligibility requirement for participation in the Venturing program is 14 years of age and completion of the eighth grade.  Effective May 1, 2010, the minimum age requirement will be changed to 14 years of age, or 13 years of age and completion of the eighth grade.  The maximum age for participation remains under 21 years of age.  The change will ensure consistency among Venturing, high-adventure bases, and other core programs.  In support of this change, a list of frequently asked questions can be found at www.scouting.org/venturing.
