2013 Patriot District Pinewood Derby

Welcome to the 2013 Patriot District Pinewood Derby Home Page. We are pleased to be able to once again provide all of the relevant entry, rules, and registration information through this web page. The information provided below is intended to help ensure that every participating Cub Scout has a great time at this year's event. Please read the information carefully and let us know if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions.

Entries

Each Pack in the Patriot District is invited to register one Cub Scout in each of five rank categories, and in one of two event categories, that will enable their participation in either the Speed or Show competitions. Thus, up to 10 Cub Scouts per pack are permitted to participate. The District Pinewood Derby is not an open event and all participants must be pre-registered by their Pack Committee (registration information can be found here - Pack Committee Only). Anyone wanting to race in the Masters category must also pre-register. The Masters events allow parents and siblings to create their own cars for the Speed or Show competitions, and to join in PWD day fun, but no trophies will be awarded in this category. Please check the Rules for 2013 for additional information.

Date and Times

The event will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2013. Registration and competition times for each of the six event (Rank) categories are given in the table below. All participating Cub Scouts should be sure to arrive early enough to get registered within the period specified for their rank. Registration lines will close promptly at the time indicated in order to help ensure that the overall competition schedule for the day can be maintained.

Location

The Patriot District Pinewood Derby for 2013 will be held at Living Savior Lutheran Church, 5500 Ox Road (Route 123), Fairfax Station, VA.  We plan to post Pinewood Derby signs to mark the turns from the North and South directions.

2013 Rules

To download a copy of the 2013 Patriot District Pinewood Derby Rules click here. The rules are virtually unchanged for 2013. The document includes the required pre-registration form for registering all participating Cub Scouts from your pack.  The on-site check-in/registration process includes checking each car for weight, length, and clearance to determine that it meets Pinewood Derby rules. Please remember that pre-cut cars bought from a hobby shop or craft store are NOT allowed – all entries must have been made starting with the Official BSA Pinewood Derby Kit.  At on-site check-in and registration, affirmation must be provided that the car was built this Scouting year (since July 1, 2012) starting from the block of wood in an Official Pinewood Derby Kit,  and that for cars in the Speed competition only approved lubricants have been used on the axles and wheels.

Volunteers Needed

We are looking for additional volunteers to help on Race Day, as well as for set-up (on Friday night and Saturday morning), pit crew, and clean-up.
