Safe Swim Defense and Safety Afloat guidelines were revised last year to include hands-on, in-water training for qualified supervisors of swimming and boating activities (see the online GtSS for the updated wording).

The hands-on training for Safety Afloat is called Paddle Craft Safety (the equivalent for Safe Swim Defense is Swimming and Water Rescue). 20101National High Adventure Camp Standards require that Lenhoksin leaders doing off-reservation canoeing programs complete the PCS training before being allowed to participate.

To make the training available to more leaders, we have split the PCS training into a classroom component and an on-water session. We are asking for your help in scheduling the classroom component at your District/Council training events. You schedule the 2 hr classroom session and the NCAC Aquatics Committee will furnish the instructor. The on-water session is then available at Lenhoksin or at Camp Snyder (see the flyer for details). (the full SWR & PCS courses are supposed to be offered at camp waterfronts this summer along with SSD & SA training)

We don't anticipate any cost for the classroom session. However, participants must have the required textbook, BSA Aquatics Supervision available at scoutstuff.org or in the scout shops.
