What Every Cub Scout Pack Should Do For Success

  1. Follow the 2013 Journey to Excellence program for packs.
  2. Use the Pack Organization Chart and job descriptions for effective shared leadership.
  3. Have all adults in positions, registered and trained for position.  Most Cub Scout training is on line.
  4. Plan a year-round pack and dens program and communicate it to all families.  Use the many on line and book Cub Scout program resourses available.
  5. Have direct contact leaders attend the monthly roundtable meeting for program ideas and support.   Roundtable meetings are held every 2nd Tuesday (except July) at  Northeastern Presbyterian Church at 2112 Varnum Street NE, Washington DC 20018 (Eastern Ave. and Varnum Street N.E.)  Time is 7:30-9:00 PM.
  6. Have the chartered organization representative attend and participate in the monthly district committee meetings.  District Committee meetings are on the fourth Tuesday of each month (except July and December)  from 7:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at The Cathedral of St. Matthew, 1725 Rhode Island Avenue  NW, Washington DC 20036. Other pack committee members may participate with operating committees of the district committee, including advancement, training, activities, membership, finance and camping. District Committee Meetings are for members of the District Committee, including chartered organization representatives
  7. Plan to attend council summer camp programs: council Day Camp, Camp Snyder, Goshen Scout Reservation.
  8. Stay in good communication using the district web page, subscribe to the council’s Capital Comments, have a pack web site, linked to the pack pin on BeAScout.org. Send the district commissioner the completed pack survey for this year.
  9. Use the “Unit Tools” section of MyScouting.org to enter advancement, service hours, print rosters and cards, and update information for the pack pin on BeAScout.org.
  10. Fund your pack program and help support council operations with the council Popcorn sale.
  11. Have every family make a pledge to the annual Family Friends of Scouting campaign, resulting in meeting or exceeding the unit goal as determined by the district finance committee.  The pack should determine a date of a pack meeting in January, February or March for the goal to be reached and all families participating.
  12. Recruit new youth members (along with parents to help), each fall and spring.  Concentrate on at least one elementary school near to or affiliated with the pack.  There should be at least one new Tiger den each fall, along with new boys in grades 2 – 5.  Ensure that all 5th grade Webelos are able to join a troop in the spring.  Keep the pack pin on BeAScout.org up to date and linked to a pack web site.  See that each lead is contacted and welcomed into the pack.
  13. Refer talented adults to serve on the district level as district committee members or commissioners.
  14. Recharter each year before the end of December.
